OAKESHOTT TO HOST SIX COMMUNITY FORUMS
INDEPENDENT MP Rob Oakeshott will host six community forums throughout the electorate of Lyne from next week ((w/c August 8)).
The forums will be held in church halls, senior citizens centres, and community halls.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to ask questions on a range of important issues, be it small business conditions, carbon pricing, tax reform or the state of local roads and bridges,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“This also is a chance for local communities to set the agenda; where locals ask the questions they want answered.”
Mr Oakeshott said the Mid-North Coast was about to experience a significant investment in infrastructure and education opportunities as a result of the recent federal budget, and new opportunities for businesses and the farm sector would emerge as a result of the carbon market.
“We have the people, the initiative and the skills to address some long-term issues that have affected our region’s economic and social prosperity for the past 30 years. Now, we also have the means to address some of those challenges, be it through tax reform, better land-use options for farmers, the largest ever Commonwealth commitment to a local hospital or extra federal funding for the environment, roads and tourism,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“No doubt people will want to ask questions about some of these new opportunities, as well as a range of other issues. These community forums will provide them with the perfect opportunity to do that.”
The free community forums will be held at:
