Regional Arts Fund delivers 22 new projects

22 new projects will be delivered as in regional, rural and remote NSW in 2012 through the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fun, which will receive a boost of $330,906.

Simon Crean announced the funding last week, revealing a broad spectrum of projects that will receive assistance through the scheme.

Film, music, circus, literature, visual arts, textiles, dance and theatre are all represented and communities across the state – from Deniliquin to Lismore – will hope to benefit from this funding.

78 applicants and over $1.3 million requested meant that this round of funding was highly competitive.

“The panel commented that decisions on funding were very difficult due to the high standard of most applications,” said Elizabeth Rogers, CEO of Regional Arts NSW.

“This round again demonstrated the range and depth of arts and cultural projects and initiatives in regional NSW and the importance of the Regional Arts Fund to these communities,” she said.

Of the 22 successful projects, three were first time applicants, four are targeting Indigenous communities, seven involving youth and two working with people with disabilities.

Some of the projects to receive funding are Arts Northern Rivers ($10,000.00) for its Creative Industries Professional Development Program; Arts OutWest ($9,890.00) for Platform, a program for young Indigenous people wanting to participate in new media; South West Art’s Studio 2710 project, providing arts workshops for people with disability;

Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance Aboriginal Corporation’s Stitching Workshops – a series of textile workshops to be conducted in the Aboriginal communities of Birpai (Port Macquarie), Kempsey, Bunyah (Wauchope) and Forster; and fLiNG Physical Theatre’s The Idea of South, a new development project that uses aerial performance, contemporary dance, text and projected imagery to explore life in the far south east of NSW.
